英國影星海倫娜．寶咸．卡特的祖母協助了猶太人從捷克斯洛伐克逃到英國，並為他們作擔保。受惠的猶太後人採用了她祖母的姓氏，保留了當年信件：

“I am thankful that you are here and safe with your little boy but I know you must be tortured thinking of your husband and your other child.”

“This terrible tyranny and oppression surely cannot last. The children must live to see the dawn of another day and to grow up in freedom, justice and tolerance. If not, one would rather they were dead.”

「這種可怕的暴政和壓迫必定不會長久。孩子們必定要活着見證黎明來臨，他們要在自由、正義和寬容中成長，否則的話，毋寧死。」

當年，那一代人為下一代，作了這樣的選擇。
